Working on a small scale means I can offer a wide range of one-time or ongoing services that fit my clients’ budgets.
When I agree to a project, I draw up a work plan to estimate the number of hours for each stage. From there, I can adapt the plan to try to meet any budget constraints. My rates vary by the type of project and business, but generally range from $40-$60 per hour.
As a reluctant participant in the capitalist system, I also welcome barters and trades to cover a portion of my services, particularly with small businesses and not-for-profits.
Because every communications project is a work in progress, I also engage interested clients in learning how to maintain their own ongoing communications projects. This could involve teaching clients how to update a website or providing templates and tip sheets for particular writing forms. While I’d love for clients to hire me every time they need a a newsletter edit, I would rather leave them able to carry on their day-to-day communications tasks independently.
